Silicon Valley

Palo Alto Clay and Glass Festival. July 8-9. Featuring both fine and functional art, this festival features 150 juried artists displaying their work. There will also be hands-on clay workshops for children and wheel-throwing demonstrations. FREE. Palo Alto.

Bri Crabtree. July 15. The show features juggling, magic, illusion and physical comedy. Objects come to life, logic is turned upside-down, and curiosity prevails. FREE. San Jose.

Star Park. July 22. Join the Halls Valley Astronomical group for a night of star gazing. You’ll have a chance to look through a variety of telescopes and ask questions about the night sky. FREE. San Jose.

Gilroy Garlic Festival. July 28-30. Join in loads of fragrant fun at this 38th annual garlic festival. Games for kids, pyrotechnic cooking, three stages of live entertainment and the world famous garlic ice cream will keep you busy the whole weekend. $18-20, kids under 10 FREE. Gilroy.

Stern Grove Concert Series. July 9. The San Francisco Symphony will perform at Stern Grove with conductor Edward Outwater. FREE. San Francisco.

Menlo Summerfest. July 15-16. The event features live music, craft beer tent, art by 200 artists, food trucks, a fun zone for kids and thrill rides. Menlo Park. FREE.

Free San Francisco Symphony Concert. July 23. Join the San Francisco Symphony for the third annual free concert at Pier 27. FREE. San Francisco.

Stern Grove Concert Series: San Francisco Ballet. July 30. The company performs selections from their current repertory with the Grammy-winning San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. FREE. San Francisco.

East Bay

Solar Viewing. July 9. The Mount Diablo Astronomical Society will help you use specially outfitted telescopes to view the sun with its faculae, filaments and sunspots. 2-3pm. $8.50 adults, $6.50 ages 2-17, members and under 2 FREE.  Walnut Creek. 

Chevron Family Theatre Festival. July 15. This daylong festival of arts and entertainment offers more than two dozen professional performances in three theaters, the lobbies and right outside. Star Wars characters will be in attendance and children can build their own LEGO droids to help save the galaxy. 10am-4pm. $5 performances inside theaters, outside events FREE. Walnut Creek.

Summer Sounds. July 20. The outdoor concert season will heat up outside the Lesher Center when the Diablo Regional Arts Association presents free performances by Box Set Duo, Trio this evening and Tumbledown House on Thu., July 27. 5:30pm. FREE. Walnut Creek.

Feast for the Beasts. July 29. The main entrance doors will open early so the first 250 guests can get a special ticket to spread produce in the elephant exhibit. Bring produce to donate and receive a free kid's ride ticket. 9am-3pm. $19.75 adults, $15.75 ages 2-14, members and under 2 FREE. Oakland.
