Since 1981, Fleet Week has drawn thousands to San Francisco each year to showcase best practices in humanitarian assistance. Among the highlights is the air show featuring the United States Navy Blue Angels and Canadian Snowbirds and others. Visitors are also invited to climb aboard amphibious carriers, destroyers and cruisers docked at Embarcadero as part of the Parade of Ships. Finally, a Humanitarian Assistance Village showcases military capabilities in responding to a disaster. People can visit different theme camps highlighting mass care and shelter, power and utilities, community response and rescue and environmental management and decontamination. Most events are on the weekend Oct. 6-8.
