This course is an introduction to reading, writing and appreciating poetry. Students will be introduced to personal poems in American literature, focusing on poetic devices that tell stories in rhymed ballads (Robinson and MacLeish), those that use sound and rhythm strategically (Dickson and Whitman) and those that employ heavy figurative language (Frost and Owen).
Instructor: Sharon Hampel has a doctorate in literature. She has taught at the University of Denver and University of Colorado.
