Tri-Valley High: THE SERIES 2017 - Creatures of Impulse Teen Improv

Jul 5, 2017 to Jul 26, 2017
07:30 PM until 09:30 PM

July 5, 12, 19, 26, 7:30-8:30pm

Hitting the Firehouse Arts Center stage in Pleasanton on Wednesday evenings this July is Creatures of Impulse, the City of Pleasanton's award-winning teen improv troupe, delivering four lively episodes of angst, heartbreak, teen drama, and total improvised hilarity: "Tri-Valley High: THE SERIES 2017."

The Bay Area's one-and-only live serialized, improvised teen "soap opera" plays out at 7:30 p.m. July 5, 12, 19, and 26. Fans are welcome to see single performances as a satisfying "stand alone," or come to all four for a full-effect experience.

Audience suggestions help create the characters, location, and plot for the interactive and unscripted adventures. NOTE: This show is best suited for ages 12 and up.

Ranging in age from 15-17, this year's "Tri-Valley High" cast members are: Amador Valley High School's Kinsey Ferrera, Bethany Chase, Aisha Mendonca, and Donovan Napoli; Jared Sigman hails from Foothill High School, and Shef Ramakrishna is at Las Positas.

Is it really improvised? "During brush-up rehearsals, cast is not allowed to discuss what can happen, only what has happened," says COI founder and facilitator Mark Duncanson, himself a professional Bay Area actor and improv-er, who developed his love for long-form, story-based improv in 1994 when he was cast in "Liquid Soap," an improvised episodic soap-opera based out of San Francisco. "Plus the cast vows not to discuss show outside of rehearsal so the stories are truly improvised. In addition, I ask them to commit to watching a teen soap opera during the run so we can nail the tropes of the genre."

Creatures of Impulse's efforts have been lauded state-wide, not only for their high caliber training and performances, but also for their community and local business out-reach, offering theatrical improvisation classes, workshops, camps, and performances that bring youth and teens together to engage in the supportive culture of teen improv.
