Memorial Day Weekend Around the Bay

Memorial Day honors those who have given their lives in service to our country, and the long weekend is traditionally a time for families to enjoy time together. Here are some great ideas!


East Bay 

Bay Area KidFest - Festivities include Alaskan racing pigs, BMX freestyle racing, Professor Smart’s Science Show, an inflatable slide and pirate ship, face painting, Dino Lake, balloons, a Ferris wheel, pony rides, food and more. San Ramon Art and Wind Festival - This event includes professional kite flyers, kite making, hot air balloons, carnival rides and arts and crafts for sale including painting, photography, jewelry, toys and more. Marin, San Francisco and the Peninsula

Memorial Day Luncheon - Remember those who have served or are serving in our Nation's Military. There will be music, guest speakers and opportunity drawings. Fri., May 24. 12pm. $10. Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City.


Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade and Carnival - Honor this patriotic holiday by watching floats roll through town. Then attend the carnival featuring traditional games, arts and crafts, the dunk tank and petting zoo. Mon., May 27. Carnival is 10am-2:30pm. Parade starts at 10:30am at Town Hall. FREE. San Rafael Memorial Day Service - This observance, conducted by Marin County United Veterans Council, will feature music, a remembrance program, flag displays and wreath-laying ceremonies. Mon., May 27. 9am. FREE. Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael. 


Silicon Valley and Coast

Great America’s Memorial Day Weekend - Active and retired members of the military get FREE admission to the theme park Sat.-Mon., May 26-27. Additionally, military members can purchase up to six tickets for a discounted price ($24 each). Valid ID required. Special events include the opening of the water park, Boomerang Bay, and entertainment by PEANUTS characters. 11am. California's Great America, 4701 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara. 


Santa Cruz Memorial Day Remembrance - Join friends, neighbors, and local veterans at Evergreen Cemetery to commemorate Santa Cruz's 152nd Memorial Day. Listen to speakers, join the pop-up museum, and honor those that have or continue to serve our country. 11am. FREE. Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, 705 Front St.
