Juneteenth — Freedom Day — falls on June 19, and the Bay Area has one of the richest celebrations in the country. Here’s your guide to marking this important holiday with your kids in a way that’s joyful, meaningful and rooted in community.

Hella Juneteenth Festival
JUNE 19. Enjoy a day of music, food, art and community. There will be a stage of DJs spinning R&B, hip-hop, Afrobeats, and cookout classics, Black-owned food vendors, games and activities for kids. Berkeley Juneteenth Festival
JUNE 21. The event will include kids’ activities, cultural celebrations and live entertainment for the whole family. 11am-7pm. FREE.

Juneteenth Celebration Concert
JUNE 27. The annual Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir Juneteenth Celebration Concert is a high-energy, spirit-lifting performance honoring freedom and community through gospel music. 8pm. $35.

Juneteenth SF Freedom Celebration
JUNE 13. Enjoy a carnival with games and rides, vendors, a classic car show, hair and fashion show and live performances. 11am-6pm. FREE.

San Francisco Juneteenth Parade
JUNE 20. The parade will celebrate the spirit of freedom, resiliency and unity. It will feature decorated floats, a horse leading the procession, a classic car showcase, live singers, dancers, and performers. 11am. FREE.
Parade starts at Market and Second streets and ends at the Embarcadero.
Juneteenth and Father’s Day Concert
JUNE 21. The Golden Gate Park Band will celebrate both Juneteenth and Father’s Day with songs from Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong and Katahj Copley. The band will have family-friendly concerts on Sundays throughout the summer. 1pm. FREE.

JUNE 19. Find your rhythm during a drumming workshop with Pope Flyne, Ghanaian-born performer, composer, and educator, and try your hand at some traditional African drums. Then top off the day by making your own percussion instrument. 9:30am-4:30pm. $16-18.
