Father’s Day Craft

Celebrate Father’s Day with a handmade gift and card he’s sure to love. Just follow these simple instructions from Lakeshore Learning.
Father’s Day Trophy (Ages 4 and up)
Let Dad know who his biggest fans are with a trophy kids can make themselves.
What You’ll Need:
• Two paper cups
• Masking tape
• Yellow or gold glitter tempera paint
• Old newspapers or butcher paper
• Painting bowl
• Paintbrush
• Pipe cleaners
• Glue
• Dad Decals template
• Scissors
• Crayons
Step 1: Spread old newspaper or butcher paper on top of your workspace. Then squeeze yellow glitter tempera paint into a bowl.
Step 2: Place one cup upside down and then stack the second cup on top, right-side up, so that the bottoms of the cups are touching each other.
Step 3: Secure the two cups together by wrapping masking tape around the circumference of the bottoms of the cups. Note: Younger kids may need some additional help with this step to be sure that the cups are securely held together.
Step 4: Paint the cups (and visible masking tape). Let dry.
Step 5: Poke two small, vertically aligned holes about two inches apart on one side of the top cup.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side of the top cup.
Step 7: Select two pipe cleaners of the same color to make “handles” on each side of the cup by inserting one end of a pipe stem into the cup through the top hole and the other end into the cup through the bottom hole. Secure the pipe cleaner by curling or bending about a half-inch of each end inside the cup.
Step 8: Select a Dad Decal (bit.ly/2FuLPN7) to add to your trophy. Color, cut out and glue the decal to the top half of their trophy, and then present to Dad!
Shirt & Tie Card (Ages 4 and up)
Tell your dad just how special he is with this handmade, heartfelt card.
What You’ll Need:
• Tie template
• Father’s Day Poem reproducible
• White construction paper, 12 by 18 inches
• Construction paper, 9 by 12 inches
• Markers
• Scissors
• Glue Stick
Step 1: Cut a 12-by-18-inch sheet of white construction paper in half lengthwise.
Step 2: Take one of the pieces and fold it in half. The folded edge will be the top of the card.
Step 3: Measure about 2 inches from top on each side of the card. Cut a 1½-inch diagonal slit on each side.
Step 4: Fold the flaps inward to make a shirt collar.
Step 5: Trace the tie template (bit.ly/2HnyA1k) onto colored construction paper.
Step 6: Cut out the tie and decorate it as desired.
Step 7: Glue the tie onto the front of the card beneath the folded collar.
Step 8: Cut out and glue the printable Father’s Day Poem (bit.ly/2FxSje5) to the inside of the card, or write your own heartfelt message. Don’t forget to sign the card before giving it to your dad.
