More About East Bay International High School

East Bay International High School

Educating Global Citizens

The East Bay International High School (EBIHS) is a multilingual, college-preparatory high school offering the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). EBIHS is one of only three high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area offering the Bilingual IB Diploma to students who elect to take language and literature courses in both English and a second language.

EBIHS is open to all students, regardless of foreign language ability. The main language of instruction is English, and students may choose from multiple language tracks with beginner to native level courses in German, French, and Spanish, as well as introductory Mandarin.

Averaging just ten students per class, EBIHS is small by design, providing highly individualized instruction and allowing EBIHS teachers to support each student based on their unique needs. Faculty members come to know students extremely well and are committed to helping students overcome challenges while inspiring them to pursue their strengths and interests to reach their full potential. One-on-one faculty mentoring and highly differentiated instruction also contribute to a uniquely personalized learning experience.

EBIHS students in grades 9 and 10 have access to a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams. EBIHS students have taken and excelled in AP examinations in Biology, Computer Science A, Human Geography, Physics, German Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, and Japanese Language and Culture. EBIHS students’ average AP score is 4.3 (out of 5), well above the national average of 3.1.

All EBIHS students in grades 11 and 12 undertake the full IB Diploma Programme (DP). Students may elect to take additional language and literature coursework in a second language, qualifying them to receive the Bilingual IB Diploma upon graduation. Only a quarter of IB candidates worldwide earn the Bilingual IB Diploma, further setting EBIHS students apart from other applicants to top universities.

The IB Diploma is often described as the “gold standard” in high school education. It offers unparalleled rigor, a holistic approach, and an international perspective. Top universities worldwide respect the IB because it cultivates high levels of analytical thinking, college-level research ability, and organizational skills. Studies show that IB students are more likely to be admitted to top-tier universities than students without the IB Diploma.

EBIHS graduates’ IB Diploma pass rate is 100% (compared to 81% worldwide). To date, 100% of graduates have received the Bilingual IB Diploma (compared to 27% worldwide). EBIHS graduates have been accepted at Ivy League schools, top public universities, and leading liberal arts colleges at rates at top universities far exceed the average. EBIHS graduates have also received generous merit-based scholarships.

EBIHS is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The EBIHS IB Diploma meets and exceeds university admission requirements in the United States and in many other countries around the world.
